C-MON-SAFE and SECURE-SAFE

Intelligent monitoring and verifiable safety evidence for the machine safety lifecycle

After commissioning, the machine keeps changing

The Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 makes mandatory what was previously left to individual diligence

CE marking certifies a state. It says nothing about what happens afterwards. Six months after installation, someone bypasses a safety function (guard, interlock, barrier) to reduce machine downtime.

The following month, a fault prevents complete energy discharge: a contactor sticks closed, a valve fails to release, a residual pressure or energy remains where it should not.

Fifteen months later, a progressive degradation of the stopping dynamics (for example, a lengthening deceleration) increases the time between activation of the protective device and the actual machine stop, without ever triggering an alarm.

All this can happen every day and, in most cases, leaves no trace.

The Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, entering into force on 20 January 2027, closes this gap. Traceability of software modifications, structured lifecycle documentation, preservation of safety evidence: what was previously a responsibility left to individual diligence becomes a formal, verifiable and enforceable obligation.

The missing link in the machine safety lifecycle

C-MON-SAFE and SECURE-SAFE: the two software solutions designed to close it

At Accessafe, we have always designed and built machine guards, access systems and safety enclosures for industrial machinery; for over ten years we have supported companies with our engineering and safety consulting services and we manage safety in warehouse and logistics environments.
To cover every phase of the machine safety lifecycle, one link was missing: the one connecting the installation phase to ongoing verification over time.

Something was needed to signal when changes occurred, and to build safety evidence before it became necessary to reconstruct it retrospectively.

The C-MON-SAFE and SECURE-SAFE software solutions were developed to close that link. They were conceived by Guido Citterio, our CEO, based on exactly this vision.

“With C-MON-SAFE and SECURE-SAFE, we complete something we have long been working towards: giving concrete form to a system designed to cover the machine safety lifecycle in everyday operational practice. We have always worked on machinery safety, from design to ongoing maintenance. Having a software system capable of recording the status of safety devices in real time and producing verifiable safety evidence when something goes wrong closes a loop that was previously left open.”

Guido Citterio, CEO of Accessafe

40Factory: the technology partner for C-MON-SAFE

Machine safety expertise and Industrial IoT technology, combined to bring the first software to market that transforms safety circuit signals into observable, traceable and defensible data

To develop C-MON-SAFE, we chose 40Factory as our technology partner. A choice driven by the quality of their technology: 40Factory develops advanced Industrial IoT solutions for the machinery sector, including the MAT platform, a modular framework designed to host vertical modules such as our machine safety software.

C-MON-SAFE operates independently of any other platform and can be installed on any system. For those using MAT, it is also available as a native module integrated into the platform. 40Factory presents this collaboration in their dedicated article.

C-MON-SAFE: intelligent machine safety monitoring

Configured on the basis of the risk assessment, it operates in real time on any system

The events monitored by C-MON-SAFE are configured starting from the machine’s risk assessment, with custom events specific to the installation.

Once defined, events are monitored over time, notified when required and, in the most severe cases, automatically archived in SECURE-SAFE.

Unauthorised
modification

A maintenance technician bypasses a safety device or makes an unauthorised software modification: C-MON-SAFE detects the change, generates a high severity event and keeps an alert active until the supervisor formally acknowledges the anomaly. The modification remains linked to a specific responsibility and a verifiable trace.

Progressive
degradation

The response times of a brake degrade over weeks, without ever triggering an alarm: the deterioration is tracked as a trend and flagged before it becomes a real problem. Not a sudden failure, but a history the system was already writing. C-MON-SAFE can prevent the incident, not just document it.

Temporary removal
of a guard

An operator temporarily removes a guard during an adjustment: C-MON SAFE records the event with full contextualisation — time, duration, status of all other safety devices at the time of the intervention. If something had occurred at that moment, we would have the tools to reconstruct exactly what was happening.

SECURE-SAFE: safety evidence is built every day

Unique digital signature, probative value defensible in any proceedings, including judicial

When an event reaches high severity, C-MON-SAFE automatically transfers data, video and associated documentation to SECURE-SAFE.
Each file receives a unique digital signature: if someone modified it by even a single character, the signature would no longer match. The evidence is immutable, verifiable by anyone and defensible in any proceedings, including judicial.
It is a complete system that builds, day after day, defensible and enforceable safety evidence over time.

Secure-safe

What SECURE-SAFE
archives

Safety evidence cannot be reconstructed after an incident: it either exists or it does not. And the time the regulation allows to find it is typically fifteen days. SECURE-SAFE archives technical documentation, training certificates, commissioning reports and all documents produced throughout the machine lifecycle, from the Gap Analysis to CE marking.

Also available as a
standalone solution

For those who already have monitoring systems, SECURE-SAFE is available as a standalone solution for certified management of safety documentation, independently of C-MON-SAFE.

Complete lifecycle

The Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 enters into force in less than two years. But the regulation does not create the problem: it makes it visible. The need to know what happens to the machine after installation already existed — every time a department tried to reconstruct the history of an incident, every time an inspection requested safety evidence that was not there.

With C-MON-SAFE and SECURE-SAFE, industrial machinery safety becomes a measurable datum: observable every day, documented in real time, defensible when needed. No longer a condition certified just once.
