Before CE marking and placing on the market or putting into service, it is necessary to verify that the machinery meets all applicable requirements. This assessment evaluates the conformity of the machinery against the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, the relevant harmonised standards in force, and the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, which will become applicable in 2027. The assessment can be carried out on new machinery as well as on existing machines that have undergone substantial modifications, or where multiple machines are integrated into a production line.
When is it needed
The verification is required:
- Before CE marking a new machine;
- Before placing on the market or putting into service;
- For existing machinery following substantial modifications;
- Where multiple machines are integrated into a production line.
How the assessment is carried out
The activity is a technical and documentary verification aimed at checking:
- Compliance of the machinery with the requirements of the Machinery Directive;
- Presence and correctness of mandatory technical documentation, including the Technical File, Declaration of Conformity, and Instruction and Maintenance Manual;
- Identification of any non-conformities in accordance with EN ISO 12100;
- Correct application of harmonised standards;
- Correct affixing of the CE marking.
NOTE: The verification is conducted taking into account the technical characteristics of the machine and actual conditions of use.
